RIGHT CONCEPTS OF CONFRONTATION

From the December 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Bible account of Jesus' raising from death the only son of the widow of Nain contains a lesson and inspiration beyond the Master's convincing act of restoring to life one who had died. We note that Jesus, his disciples, and a great number of people were coming "nigh to the gate of the city" (Luke 7:12), but the funeral procession was going out; in other words, one group was approaching, and the other was leaving, the city.

The phrase, "much people of the city," indicates the sympathy that was felt by those who had joined the funeral procession. We read that Jesus had compassion on the mother, but he did not join the procession. He challenged and reversed the false mental picture, as it surely was to his Christlike consciousness, and effected a complete healing, causing the many who witnessed it to glorify God.

How important it is for us not to follow in the way that leads to the burial of our highest aims and best deeds but to adhere to the living way, the way that keeps our thinking alert and alive in the truth!
