For centuries men have believed that man is born of human parents, has a material body, lives in a matter universe, and is subject not only to a good God, but to the whims and laws of another power. Nearly one hundred years ago Mrs. Eddy revealed to the world that man is not a mortal and that matter, which is transient and the opposite of Spirit, God, is unreal.
She had Biblical authority for this, for in the first chapter of Genesis we read, "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." We also read in the same chapter, "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." The Bible also tells us that God fills all space, He is the only power, the only lawmaker, the Father of us all. So there can be no other creator or presence, nothing that is unlike good. In order to identify ourselves as the man of God's creating, as Christ Jesus did, we must let go of every belief of life in matter and evidence the perfection of God's idea as Christian Science reveals it.
On page 542 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy helps us to see that we must stop feeling responsible for the actions of others. She says: "Let Truth uncover and destroy error in God's own way, and let human justice pattern the divine. Sin will receive its full penalty, both for what it is and for what it does." God never fails to look after His own. Our only responsibility, then, is to watch our thoughts.
