ARE WE SHAPING OUR COURSE?

As we were driving home early one evening, we picked up an engaging lad and dropped him close to his home. He had a job in the city, which involved his rising at five thirty and catching a six-thirty bus. Commenting that the time was round to six thirty again and that he was just on his way home, I was startled as he replied with a smile, "Yes, and that's life!"

Involuntarily I challenged this early submission to toilsome breadwinning, "But surely you don't feel you have to go on this way always?"

He answered cheerfully, "You've got to if you want to live!"
