OUR SPIRITUAL ARMOR

From the December 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One may view, in certain museums, armor of the type worn by knights of olden times. Made of metal and completely covering the body, a suit of armor afforded the knight protection as he engaged in battle with his enemy.

While such armor as this has long been outmoded, there is a kind of armor that is always effective to protect one from harm or disaster. This armor, which is spiritual in nature, becomes one's own as one comprehends that God, good, is supreme over all error and that His care for His creation is constant, loving, and all-embracing.

Paul thoroughly understood the nature of the armor requisite for men's protection in spiritual warfare. He counseled (Eph. 6:11—17): "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. . . . Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
