What is thy birthright, man, Child of the perfect One; What is thy Father's plan For His beloved son? These lines from the Christian Science Hymnal ( Hymn No. 382 ) call to mind the first chapter of Genesis, in which it is clearly stated that God made man in His own image and likeness and gave him dominion over all the earth.
ARE we putting on excess weight? Do we believe that if we took some off, we would feel better and look better? What is the remedy, diet or dominion? To those who might favor diet, Christian Science calls attention to the fact that the government of the body does not lie with matter but with divine Mind and that one demonstrates this government by gaining dominion over human thought, with its false appetites and indulgences. "Of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it.
A TEACHER in a Christian Science Sunday School was asked one Sunday, "Christian Scientists do not make experiments, do they?" The pupil who asked this question desired confirmation that a student of Christian Science does not deliberately create a discordant situation in order to prove the healing truth of Science. With what wonder and with what timid—almost unbelieving—hope have Christ Jesus' words as recorded by the beloved disciple John been received, "If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death" ( John 8:51 ). "Never see death"! Those three words resounded in the writer's thought at the time of the passing of a loved member of her family, and her interpretation of them as a divine command immediately lifted from her all sense of grief.
In speaking of the vision of a new heaven and a new earth which John beheld on the Isle of Patmos, Mrs. Eddy writes on page 573 of Science and Health: "This testimony of Holy Writ sustains the fact in Science, that the heavens and earth to one human consciousness, that consciousness which God bestows, are spiritual, while to another, the unillumined human mind, the vision is material.
