A TEACHER in a Christian Science Sunday School was asked one Sunday, "Christian Scientists do not make experiments, do they?" The pupil who asked this question desired confirmation that a student of Christian Science does not deliberately create a discordant situation in order to prove the healing truth of Science.
An interesting discussion took place. Then the class agreed that a student of Christian Science has no need to experiment, because the truth has already been proved by Christ Jesus and Mrs. Eddy, and the resulting evidence has been established for our use, guidance, and benefit, first in the Bible and then in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
The teacher cited Jesus' temptation in the wilderness as an indication that Jesus saw no need to experiment with his understanding of man's unity with God, that he regarded the suggestion to do so as an attempt to win him from his sole allegiance to God, to bring him down from the mountaintop of God-given dominion which a knowledge of true being establishes. Jesus' final answer to the subtle suggestions of the devil was this: "Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve" (Matt. 4:10).
