To admit that Christ Jesus is the Son of God, and that his crucifixion and resurrection served to teach mankind the way of salvation, has value in lifting thought above sin. However, mere admission of the great work of the Master and of the power of the Christ to heal and save is not enough to save the sinner from the suffering coincident with sin.

Students of Christian Science are daily rejoicing that they can learn of God from the inspired Word of the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy and need not be driven to find Him through suffering. However, if the need of mortals does consist of chastenings in order that they may be inspired to advance spiritually, the very action of Christ, Truth, in human consciousness will uncover obstacles to progress and bring to the surface hidden errors that must be overcome in order for one to be blessed, healed, and exalted.

All Bible students are familiar with the words of Christ Jesus, found in the eighth chapter of John, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. " Our freedom is dependent on our continuing in his word, on being active followers of the Master and of our great Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who has interpreted his words and works.
