DIRECT and frank opposition to the truth is more easily detected, and thereby more readily counteracted, than are dilatory and hidden methods. Thus it is that the carnal mind's "enmity against God," to which St.
IN these tumultuous days when we read our daily newspapers and seem to see under our eyes the literal fulfillment of the tremendous prophecies contained in the twenty-first chapter of Luke and in the book of Revelation, when "men's hearts" are "failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth," it behooves the student of Christian Science to look persistently and closely into his thought, and to ask himself where he stands with regard to all these things. How, for instance, can he most effectively use his understanding of Christian Science to meet these tremendous happenings, to help his neighbor, his nation, and the world at large? THE internal disorders of the realm depicted by Micah are also prominent in Isaiah's prophecies; they were closely connected, not only with the foreign complications due to the approach of the Assyrians, but also with the break-up of the old agrarian system within Israel, and with the rapid and uncompensated aggrandisement of the nobles during those prosperous years when the conquest of Edom by Amaziah and the occupation of the port of Elath by his son placed the lucrative trade between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea in the hands of the rulers of Judah. IN the turbulence and distress of the world-thought, many individuals are searching for the light. They see there is a great need, but to those who continue to seek peace, contentment, and supply in matter, darkness and fear seem to loom up as insurmountable obstacles to progress.
