OUR beloved Leader has written in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 112), "From the infinite One in Christian Science comes one Principle and its infinite idea, and with this infinitude come spiritual rules, laws, and their demonstration, which, like the great Giver, are 'the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever.'"
When suffering from the effects of a supposedly fatal accident, Mrs. Eddy turned to the Bible for help and comfort; and as she read in the ninth chapter of Matthew the account of Jesus' healing of the man sick of the palsy she received the spiritual illumination which resulted in her own healing.
She did not rest content with her restoration to health and peace, for she felt convinced that since God had healed her there must be a law of healing. For three years she searched the Scriptures, the search being, as she has said of it, "sweet, calm, and buoyant with hope, not selfish nor depressing" (Science and Health, p. 109). As the result of this search she found the law of God underlying spiritual healing.
