"The foundation of mortal discord is a false sense of man's origin," Science and Health, p. 262; says Mrs.
Is anyone really satisfied to be a prisoner of time and place, of finite quantities? God made man as His expression of His own infinite being. Isn't this the very opposite of the mortal, limited, material concept of humanity? How much freer we are when we accept Mrs.
Feelings are strong these days—feelings of apprehension for the future; feelings that alienate and estrange, peculiar to the generations; feelings of racial bitterness. Whatever the cause appears to be, emotions of remorse or resentment, fear or frustration, hurt or hatred, if long indulged, can rob us of our natural good natures, our health, and our purpose.
It is often said that we live in a permissive society, that is, a society in which people are relatively free to do what they want in personal life, the business world, or the world of art and drama, without fear of attracting much criticism or comment from others, or much attention from the law. The sort of permissiveness that claims that each one should be free to "do his thing," to indulge all his passing whims or lusts regardless of the consequences for others, is the bogus freedom offered by animal magnetism, the attracting power of evil.
For centuries it has been an established custom for individuals to exchange gifts on special occasions as an expression of remembrance and love. As we strive for a more comprehensive understanding of our spiritual existence as a child of God, we become increasingly aware that as recipients of boundless good from our Father-Mother God we have spiritual riches unknown to the materially-minded.
How did Christian Scientists in Mannheim, Germany, manage to get such a beautiful church edifice of their own? It has long been a practice for many branch churches in Europe to rent rooms in other buildings, or even to rent other churches for several hours each week. This has worked well for some, but others have felt that Christian Science needs a solid sense of identity in the community to show everyone that Christian Science is here to stay.
According to Matthew ( 2:2 ), the wise men from the East came to Jerusalem inquiring, "Where is he that is born King of the Jews?" The disturbance felt by Herod upon receiving news of the search for a royal Judaean heir was due in part to his own ancestry. Had Herod been a true Jew, instead of an Idumaean, doubtless he would not have found it necessary to risk the scorn of those of whom he inquired "where Christ should be born" (verse 4).
The grandfather clock was out of order. One night (so the story goes) a little boy awoke as the clock began to strike.
Many dedicated workers in branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, are finding the answer to a question concerning the growth and prosperity of our Cause: What must a teacher in a Christian Science Sunday School do to overcome the evidence of idleness and apathy in his class? The answer comes in a positive declaration of the truth that mental laziness is not a quality of the all-acting, infinite Mind; therefore it cannot be expressed by man, the idea of Mind. The Sunday School teacher realizes that his mental climate and motive for teaching must express spiritual manhood with such clarity that only the power of good will be manifested in the class.
Christ Jesus was approachable. Crowds thronged him wherever he went.
