The Need to Pray for Ourselves

Somebody once asked a Christian Science practitioner, "What are some good first steps to take in preparation for healing the sick in this Science?" The practitioner answered, "One good step might be to learn to stay well yourself."

Surely it requires endless love and untiring consecration on our part to bless and heal mankind. But sometimes a strange carelessness regarding our own individual well-being may suggest itself to us—as though everyone were worthy to be cared for except ourselves. It would even seem, on occasion, that submission to weariness and depletion is somehow an inevitable part of working to help others.

This is not true. Unselfish efforts in God's service are rewarded by the Father, not penalized. "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength," we read in the Bible. "They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."Isa. 40:31;
