The Outreach of Spiritual Thinking

From the May 1972 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The spiritual power of a scientific, right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases," Rudimental Divine Science, p. 9 writes Mrs. Eddy. Just about every student of Christian Science has experienced the power of his spiritual thinking to heal himself. But not all are aware of the influence of their spiritual thinking on those around them and on the world.

Every spiritual truth we know for ourselves is the divine fact about our loved ones and everyone; it does go forth to bless others. People whose thought is receptive can be touched—often without being aware of it—by this outreach of spiritual knowing.

At Philippi, Paul and Silas had been stripped of their clothes, beaten, and then put in stocks in the inner prison. Yet despite the injustice and the physical suffering, they rejoiced. The Bible tells us: "At midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed." Acts 16: 25, 26
