With much gratitude I look back to the time when I first heard of Christian Science and came into contact with it. I was searching and longing for something that I could not at that time define. Today I know it was desire for freedom from depressing emotional and physical states under which I suffered greatly.
Even as a child I concerned myself with religious thoughts and questions. I felt compelled to read the Bible, to become more familiar with it, and to learn more of God, as well as to gain an understanding of my relationship to Him. I was particularly impressed by the healings mentioned in the Bible, although I did not know how we might go about applying them to daily needs. All of these healings seemed symbolic to me. I did not grasp the truer and deeper sense. Yet I was soon to become familiar with it. I went to a piano teacher who was a Christian Scientist, and she saw it as her duty to direct me to Christian Science, since she saw my need for help.
When I began for the first time to read the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, curious and like someone starving, I knew and felt that this was the way to the solution that I was seeking. From then on my path through life brightened with hope, confidence, and joy, releasing me from the pressure that my concept of limited life prospects exerted.
