After the Passover feast in Jerusalem, and his brief but eventful stay in Samaria, Jesus appears to have gone directly into Galilee, where some of his most notable work was to take place. "Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilæans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast" (John 4:45).
According to John's account (verse 46), "Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine." There he met the nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum, and who passed the test of his faith by accepting Jesus' assurance, "Thy son liveth." Apparently he returned home without anxious haste, since not until the next day did his servants meet him on the road, confirming the words of the Master. John concludes (verse 54), "This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judæa into Galilee."
According to Matthew, Jesus' opening message in Galilee repeated the stirring call for which John the Baptist had become well known: "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (4:17). As his ministry continued, news of his work spread far and wide.
