The Scriptures reveal God to be Truth, one infinite, good Father, or Spirit, whose creation is good; and they expose the untrue, or deceptive, nature of all that is not good. In Genesis (3:1) we find the serpent, the Biblical figure for sin, described as "more subtil than any beast of the field;" and in Revelation (12:9) the same serpent is called "the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world.
True law is God's law, the law of Love. Law that does not include love is not God's law, and we need not be afraid of it.
" What ," Pilate asked, "is truth?'" ( John 18:38 . ) And through the centuries mankind continues to ponder the same query.
Would it not be wonderful to live in a realm of changeless beauty, to enjoy uninterrupted health, and to experience unalloyed happiness? The realm of God, or the kingdom of heaven, includes just such a prospect. When Christ Jesus healed the sick and reformed the sinner, he did so because he was aware of the heavenly harmony existing here and now as a state of consciousness.
On the great walls of the Extension of The Mother Church, to the right of the Readers' rostrum as one faces it, are inscribed statements based upon lines written by Mary Baker Eddy and found on page 270 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. " As they appear on the walls they read: "If sin makes sinners, Truth and Love can unmake them.
In her book "Rudimental Divine Science" Mary Baker Eddy writes ( p. 9 ), "The spiritual power of a scientific, right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases.
At times the necessity of rededicating their lives to Christian Science is apparent to those who love Truth and realize the demand for continued inspiration if the Christ is to be revealed in its full power and glory. Often these times come when the threatening claims of evil need to be faced with renewed courage and their nothingness proved.
In the eleventh chapter of Genesis we read that at one time the people of the earth had one language and one speech. The Bible narrative records this fact and goes on to say, "And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
When the wonder and glory of the Christ in its measureless application to the needs of humanity dawned upon her spiritual and receptive consciousness, Mary Baker Eddy cherished the eager hope that her revelation and discovery would be immediately and universally accepted. She soon saw, however, that she was confronted with the tenacious and deeply rooted material beliefs of human beings individually and collectively and that the redemptive activity of the Christ would have to be gradual, governed and measured only by the spiritual receptivity of the individual.
There is never a moment when God is not All-in-all—all presence, all power, all knowledge. The spiritually-minded feel the presence of divine Love because they know that Love is ever present under all circumstances.
