Testimonies of Healing
ONE OF THE THINGS I'VE LEARNED about healing is that it is important to expect it. As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I've found that this attitude has made a great difference in the many healings I've had.
IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL SATURDAY morning, and a couple of friends and I were going for a motorcycle ride, off the beaten path about an hour out of Los Angeles. I was warned there would be some very sharp turns, and since I hadn't ridden these roads before, I took careful note.
WE WERE ON BOARD a coastal steamer gliding through the fjords of Norway enjoying the wonderful sights—snowcapped mountains, glassy dark waters, and picture-perfect fishing villages. This was neither the time nor place to feel miserable; but that's just how I felt.
SINCE I WAS A TEENAGER , I'd suffered with severe cramps and other symptoms accompanying my monthly period. I prayed on and off about this, with some results, but I still struggled with being basically out of commission for at least a day every month.
AS A YMCA CAMP COUNSELOR , one of my responsibilities was to round up and feed the horses. One morning as I got close to the "alpha" horse, trying to keep out of range of its back hooves, I suddenly heard what sounded like a gunshot, followed quickly by what I realized was me crying out in extreme pain.
WHILE PREPARING TO LEAVE for a two-day business trip to a very rural part of Oregon, I began to experience pain in one of my molars. Although annoying, the pain was tolerable, and I attempted to just work through it.
WHEN I BEGAN TO STUDY Christian Science I noticed a lot of positive changes in my life. Many unpleasant character traits dropped away, my job situation turned around for the better, and my home life became more harmonious.
IN MY EARLY TEENS I had an accident that tore and displaced the ligaments around my spine. This left the spine not quite straight.
WHEN I AM TEACHING my high school (and older) Sunday School students about reliance on God for good in their lives, I mention the first chapter of Genesis, which describes God as good, and as creating man and woman equal and wholly good. In fact, seeing creation as already perfect is the way Jesus healed, as Mary Baker Eddy explained in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
WHILE MY HUSBAND AND I were walking in our neighborhood, I tripped over a crack in the sidewalk where tree roots had lifted the concrete. I landed full force on my face, with my nose and chin taking the blow.
