Testimonies of Healing
For twenty years previous to my healing I had been a hard drinker. I made several attempts to stop drinking.
I desire to speak of some of the benefits Christian Science has brought to our home. Our attention was first directed to the subject when a practitioner was called to see my husband's sister.
I had suffered off and on for about fourteen years, but was able to keep at my work. For over a year previous to turning to Christian Science, however, I was entirely laid up, much of the time not even able to sit up.
The testimonials in our periodicals are helpful to all their readers and I also wish to tell what Christian Science has done for me. My home is in Indian Territory, and when I first came here people constantly exclaimed, "This is a fearfully malarious country," and the result was a continual fear of chills and fever.
The possibilities of Christian Science, as a curative means, were presented to me after a life-time's suffering with stomach trouble and accompanying organic ailments. From my earliest days I was subject to a severe gastric affection, which became more virulent and recurrent as I advanced in years.
Four years ago those beautiful words, Christian Science, fell on my ears for the first time, and within four months thereafter the truth, as revealed in Science and Health, had removed scars from my eyes, resulting from twenty years of painful disease, which seemed to be culminating in blindness. Through fear of this my general health was in a very bad state, fast sinking into the many ills of nervous prostration.
Many times I am asked if chronic or organic diseases can be healed through Christian Science. In reply to all I will say that I know from past experience they can.
The liquor habit had fastened itself upon me when I was still a very young man, and for at least twenty-five years I was compelled to fight it constantly. By sheer force of will, I would abstain from drink for months at a time, but the return to it seemed to be inevitable.
I was healed eight years ago of rheumatism, by reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
From my earliest recollection I did not know what it was to enjoy good health, suffering much of the time on account of defective sight, headaches, indigestion, pleurisy, rheumatism, and heart trouble. In the spring of 1895 there was serious eye trouble and a general breaking down of the system.
