Testimonies of Healing
In 1899, after the birth of a daughter, my wife did not progress; but grew weaker every day. A physician was constantly attending to her, and at last I was informed that she had some internal trouble, which would require an operation.
A little over one year ago my body was racked with aches and pains innumerable. I suffered from chronic tonsilitis, hay fever, rheumatism, cancer, and nervous prostration.
I was an invalid from the time of my birth, and it was believed that I had inherited spinal and kidney disease,— since all my life I suffered a great deal from them. —also a very weak stomach.
In 1898, a friend who was on a visit here hunted me me up to share with me the good tidings, the wonderful message contained in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. " She found me a physical and almost a mental wreck—the result of overwork, worry, and the grip—about to lose my position as official stenographer of the United States Courts".
I feel it my great privilege to give the following testimony as to the healing power of Christian Science which has come into my experience. Some thirty years ago my ankle was put out of joint by an accident.
I feel compelled to make a public acknowledgment of my healing through Christian Science. From earliest youth I had trouble with my blood, also indigestion; and during several years' stay in a hot climate, fifteen years ago, I was attacked with rheumatism, which developed into a chronic disease and affected my nerves and marrow.
If young students or beginners in the study of Christian Science would commence at once to apply its teaching, they would realize the fulfilment of the wonderful words from Isaiah, "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee. " An aunt wrote me of her seemingly wonderful healing through Christian Science treatment.
" Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" was first placed in my hands about twelve years ago. I remember saying, after having read several pages, that it had an uplifting influence which was remarkable.
Early in April, 1905, our little boy, aged two years, was seized with high fever followed by violent spasms, from no apparent cause. A very serious nervous condition followed for four days, when a state of coma set in.
I WAS taken sick about August, 1901, and was treated by a physician, who called my complaint enlargement of the liver with gastric complications. There was no improvement in my condition, but gradually I grew worse.
