Testimonies of Healing

I am immensely thankful to my parents for bringing me up to know Christian Science. Several times my sister and I were healed by their prayers, and sometimes by those of Christian Science practitioners.

Not having been raised to know Christian Science, I saw a dramatic contrast between what my life was like before and after learning of it. An increased understanding of God and of man's spiritual relation to Him, which has come through my study of this precious religion, has favorably influenced every facet of my life.

I am always so grateful to receive each week the Christian Science Sentinel, and each month the Journal, which include reports of healing. To know that spiritual healing is occurring all around the world is very reassuring to me, as I rely on Christian healing in my own life.

During the holiday season in 1992, when Christmas activities were at their height, I came home from bowling one Friday night feeling very tired. The next day there was a red spot on my leg, and a pain in my groin that just about incapacitated me.

When my wife and I retired, we wanted to devote ourselves to Christian Science as volunteer workers. We prayed for guidance, acknowledging that "desire is prayer," as is stated on page 1 of Science and Health : "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds.

I was blessed to be raised in a home where Christian Science was conscientiously practised and its teachings adhered to. However, it was not until I was faced with the challenges of marriage and the raising of four children that its teachings became my own and a way of life.

" Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee" ( Job 22:21 ). I became acquainted with the teachings of Christian Science when I was in deep mourning for my mother, who had passed away a few days previously.

Having a baby and home to care for, I felt as some mothers feel—overwhelmed. My commonly spoken phrase was "I just can't get everything done!" And I then felt frustration, guilt, anxiety, pressure, and fatigue.

I attended a Christian Science Sunday School regularly from an early age until I was twenty. I loved and trusted what I learned there, and endeavored to practice the teachings of Christian Science over the years.

In the summer of 1987 a friend and I set out to float down the Gunnison River in Colorado, from the town of the same name into the Blue Mesa Reservoir. In retrospect, floating was what I had been doing mentally as well for quite a while —drifting into trouble.
