Testimonies of Healing
I have received a great deal of inspiration from reading the healings in the Christian Science magazines, and it is with great joy that I share several of my own. When our eldest son was four, he became quite ill, along with many of the other children in his day-care center.
I am Robert's wife. I had been raised in a devout Christian home, and study of the Bible had taught me to love God.
When one day I started having difficulty breathing, I allowed myself to become very fearful about it. The condition continued to worsen.
When I was in second grade I had a wart on the bottom of my foot. At first it didn't bother me, but soon it started to hurt.
In January 1992 I began to feel pain in one shoulder, and before long most of my body was very stiff and painful; movement was difficult, sometimes impossible. My sister, a Christian Scientist, had been healed of what a medical specialist had diagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis.
In 1966 my husband passed on, and I was left to continue on with two loving and understanding children. I was sustained beautifully by the love expressed by family and friends, and it seemed as though for weeks and months the Christian Science periodicals were written especially for me, for every one I picked up to read had a message to comfort me.
I became a Christian Scientist in 1980. I was a Presbyterian before that, and I'm grateful for the Christian understanding I gained from that background.
My husband and I arrived at the hospital for the birth of our first child at noon. Before we left home, we had contacted all involved parties: a Christian Science practitioner, a state-certified nurse midwife, and a Christian Science nurse.
Recently on a Wednesday evening at our branch church service we heard readings about the transforming nature of the teachings of Christian Science. As a result I was reminded of a healing for which I want to give thanks here, as it initiated transformation of thought in our family.
For several years, I found myself challenged at work—the staff was drawn to gossip, criticism, and disrespect for both employers and other employees. For quite some time, it was hard just to be there.
