Testimonies of Healing

The first Christian Science healing in our family took place when, after only glancing through Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, my father was released from the desire for alcoholic beverages.

I'm so glad I attended a Christian Science Sunday School and grateful for the devoted Sunday School teachers who encouraged my early growth in Science. One time, while I was still young, I had a very heavy cold and cough.

During my late teens I had recurring bouts with tonsillitis, and a chronic difficulty with both feet. Still, my prayers for myself were spasmodic, although occasionally I had the help of a Christian Science practitioner.

Although I had an early introduction to Christian Science, in later years my interest in and fidelity to its sound teachings waned. On one not-so-bright day during World War II, however, all this changed.

One Friday I was ill with an abscessed tooth. I called a Christian Science practitioner, who steadfastly supported me through prayer.

My mother came into Christian Science when I was a teen-ager. At the time, I was suffering from hay fever.

I was introduced to Christian Science by a devoted student of this religion when it seemed there was no place to go: there were problems in my marriage, and my infant son was quite ill. Yet here was this lovely person telling me that God loved me—loved everyone, including what appeared to be a sick child.

As a specialist in architectural renderings, I was once asked to prepare a set of perspective drawings of the Olympic Village to submit to the International Committee in Athens—and given just two weeks in which to do it. Reckoning from a human standpoint, this meant working twice as fast as I normally did.

When I realized that our second baby was expected, I began a diligent study to better understand God's omnipotent law of good. Our first child had been born by Caesarean section, but I felt deeply that a normal second delivery was possible.

When I was in high school, my youngest sister had a healing that deeply impressed me and years later continues to bring inspiration. It showed me that the teachings of Christian Science have lost none of their tremendous healing efficacy.
