Testimonies of Healing
Although I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School while I was growing up, I lost interest in this teaching during my teens. It was not until after the Second World War, when working amidst the moral and physical bankruptcy of postwar Europe, that I started looking for an answer to the questions that confronted me.
A few years ago the headlines were filled with reports of breast cancer. Several leading ladies in society were undergoing operations for it, and talk of this ran rampant.
"We're right back where we started from" was the depressing thought that greeted me as I woke up one morning. Circumstances certainly seemed similar to what they had been when we were first married.
While I was growing up, my mother and I lived in a poor area of a large city. This was during the Depression, and our income was so small that a college education seemed beyond what we could afford.
My introduction to Science came shortly after the birth of our first son. According to the doctor, the infant had a lazy or partially paralyzed intestine; there was also the likelihood that he would have clubfeet.
Although I was brought up in Christian Science, I dropped away from it for a time, until I began to recognize the infinite blessings that result from the study and application of its truths. Soon, although I'd made countless futile attempts to quit smoking through human will, Christian Science healed me completely of all desire to smoke and indulge in social drinking.
For several days one time, I suffered with symptoms of the flu, the most noticeable of which (to me) was a sore throat. During this time I was praying to overcome the difficulty through my newfound understanding of God in Christian Science.
Does Christian Science heal as it did years ago? The answer is yes, this Science has come to heal and save, to prove for mankind God's unfailing love and care. This testimony is offered as evidence of these facts.
My mother became interested in Christian Science before I was born, and first demonstrated its healing truths when she was freed from arthritis. Because she was a concert pianist, arthritis seemed an especially heartbreaking claim.
In June 1978 some members of my family and I were in a car that was hit by an oncoming car. I was in the driver's seat and took the brunt of the impact.
