
Testimonies of Healing
Just a few years ago I took up the study of Christian Science. Prior to this I had emptied the local library of every book they had on healing and various religious teachings.
During college I was advised by an eye doctor that I needed glasses. On my way home from this appointment I gave the situation some thought.
In late summer of 1962, I was in Edinburgh, Scotland, nearing the end of a fifteen-month period of graduate study and travel. At the time, Edinburgh was jampacked with tourists and students.
More than once I have wanted to contribute to our periodicals my gratitude for Christian Science, but each time I have been deterred by the necessity of choosing, from among a multitude, a few examples of the great things God has done for me. But having passed the tenth anniversary of life under the authority of this wonderful Science, I feel I must share something.
One morning in the summer of 1979, four things came together that many would consider a dangerous combination: bare feet, a metal handrail on our motor home, an improperly grounded electrical wire that was connected to our house circuit, and wet grass. When I realized that I was not able to let go of the handrail or step back into the motor home, I called for my husband.
Over the past decade I have received many benefits through the study and demonstration of Christian Science. And church membership has always been a special blessing to me.
When I was ten years old, I wrote to my grandmother and asked her to send me a set of books—the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
My first glimpse into the teachings of Christian Science came from reading a religious article in The Christian Science Monitor. (At the time, I was visiting a relative who subscribed to the Monitor because of its objective news coverage.
When I was healed of chronic alcoholism three years ago, I had no idea what had healed me or how I had been healed. But I did remember having recently read sections of a book.
Christian Science came into my life when I was a young adult. The first article I read on Science was in a pamphlet.
