Testimonies of Healing
One morning in the summer of 1979, four things came together that many would consider a dangerous combination: bare feet, a metal handrail on our motor home, an improperly grounded electrical wire that was connected to our house circuit, and wet grass. When I realized that I was not able to let go of the handrail or step back into the motor home, I called for my husband.
Over the past decade I have received many benefits through the study and demonstration of Christian Science. And church membership has always been a special blessing to me.
When I was ten years old, I wrote to my grandmother and asked her to send me a set of books—the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
My first glimpse into the teachings of Christian Science came from reading a religious article in The Christian Science Monitor. (At the time, I was visiting a relative who subscribed to the Monitor because of its objective news coverage.
When I was healed of chronic alcoholism three years ago, I had no idea what had healed me or how I had been healed. But I did remember having recently read sections of a book.
Christian Science came into my life when I was a young adult. The first article I read on Science was in a pamphlet.
My recent childbearing experiences have helped me recognize that we are all equally God-created, spiritually originated, and eternally existent, and that understanding Christ and the Science of Christianity overcomes material limitations that deny this truth. Because of complications during labor, the physician attending the birth of our first child performed a Caesarean section.
I felt blessed as a child, being raised by an aunt and uncle who were studying Christian Science. Through their help I began to learn about God, who is good.
One afternoon close to the rush hour I was traveling in a streetcar. I remained seated from the first station to the last and was not paying any attention to my surroundings.
Throughout her writings Mrs. Eddy frequently indicates that the purpose of Christian Science is not physical healing alone, but the complete liberation from the illusion of a material universe and self.
