Testimonies of Healing
Christian Science has been a blessing to me for more than forty years. During this time there have been many proofs of the power of Truth in healing physical and mental distress of all sorts, in the reformation of character, in the restoration of lost articles, and in the demonstration of supply.
It was not until I married that I heard of Christian Science. Although my husband had been raised with Science, he was not an active student at that time.
A year or so prior to my inquiry into Christian Science, I was seeking help from a physician who, though sympathetic, did not offer much hope of relief; nor did he allay my fears concerning menopause. I was receiving monthly hormone treatments and was told to consider having a hysterectomy.
Although I was born and brought up in a home where Christian Science was studied and practiced, I never really had to prove the truths of this Science for myself until I served in the United States Air Force for four years. Then I found out how much daily guidance and protection I could receive from trusting in our Father-Mother God through prayer.
About twenty-five years ago, when I was quite new in Christian Science, I traveled to a distant village with our son, who at that time was seven years old. One night, just before retiring, our son fell one story down the steps from the first floor.
When I was a child of five, my mother, in seeking peace because of our broken home, had the wonderful privilege of taking class instruction in Christian Science. The next several years of my life were spent living with relatives, and there was much moving about.
A number of years ago my husband and I moved to the Ozarks and rented a house while ours was being built. Early that December, after a heavy snowfall, I went to visit neighbors a half mile away.
I first witnessed the healing effects of Christian Science when, as a little girl, I was stricken with a severe illness. Through the prayers of my family and a dedicated Christian Science practitioner, I was back on the school playground with my friends in just two weeks time.
Many years ago my mother attended a Sunday service at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, because a friend was singing the solo. She became interested in the Bible Lesson (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly ) read that morning.
During my freshman year in high school I became completely bored with school, and after Christmas vacation, when classes resumed, I no longer had any desire to do the work. I wanted no part of high school; in fact, I wanted to drop out.
