Testimonies of Healing
Twenty some years ago I was warned by neighbors that a "Christian Science woman" was moving in right next door, and that I should avoid getting friendly with her because of her religion. I was told that Christian Scientists were radicals, who believed God would come down from heaven and heal people.
During a family outing our youngest daughter was missing for a short while. Very soon we found her floating motionless in a pool of dirty water.
Although my mother and aunt had been attending services in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, for many years, I found that I was unable to understand what I considered abstract terms when I had a brief exposure to Christian Science during my teens. It was only in later years, when I feared a possible life of invalidism, that I turned wholeheartedly to Science.
One time, when I was a teen-ager, I fell off my bicycle, apparently breaking my wrist in the process. My arm was put in a sling, and I stayed home from school.
During a recent Wednesday testimony meeting at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I felt that the citations from the Bible and from our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, emphasized the overcoming of fear through receptivity and an understanding of Love.
At one time my husband and I stayed with my parents during the summer months, managing a family-owned resort hotel. This particular summer there had been several guest-employee relationship problems that seemed to annoy me.
Over forty years ago I was introduced to Christian Science by a medical specialist. I had gone to this specialist after other doctors had failed to cure me of a chronic intestinal disorder that had resulted in considerable loss of weight and extreme discomfort.
Since my first testimony was published in 1975, I have had many experiences to be grateful for as a result of my continued study of Christian Science. Some years ago I was afflicted with severe and sometimes crippling pain on one side of my body and down one leg.
"Filled Up Full. " Besides being the title of a children's book published by The Christian Science Publishing Society, it summarizes a big lesson my husband and I learned when we were aboard the DC10 plane that slid into Boston Harbor in January 1982.
The increased understanding of God that my husband and I have gained through the study of Christian Science has brought many healings. We have been sustained financially, physically, and mentally through the recognition that God is our ever-present Father-Mother.
