Testimonies of Healing

"The greatest wrong is but a supposititious...

From the November 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The greatest wrong is but a supposititious opposite of the highest right," states Mrs. Eddy on page 368 of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health. The truth of this statement has been proved in my experience. Once I was faced with some difficulties that seemed unyielding. One morning, as I came into the lobby of the building I work in, I tripped over something in the floor tiling and was thrown forcibly against a stone wall, striking my head and face. My first thought as I felt myself falling was, "This is unreal." And I began declaring truths of God and man. Those spiritual truths just poured into consciousness: "God is my Life. God is my Mind. My spiritual identity is indestructible and intact." I held to these statements with all my strength.

By now several co-workers were standing by, silently supporting me through prayer. (I work at the Christian Science Center.) I was able to let go of tension when I thought, Perfection is the truth of God and man, and this truth is the only real law governing man. Then I became aware that the pain had simply lifted. It had been banished by that pure, spiritual impact of Truth. I was lovingly helped up, and from there was able to go up to the main lobby and rest. A co-worker whom I had not known before stayed with me, sharing truths until I could go to work. I remember he said, "You're a trooper for God." I was so grateful to him for saying that. In the office I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner, whose prayers helped me to maintain calm during the day.

What had made the difference in spite of what seemed, to the physical senses, to be a crushing blow? It was in seeing the ever-presence of Spirit in place of matter or injury; in knowing that all dominion and power belong to the man of God's creating, for, as the Bible tells us (Gen. 1:26): "God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion ... over all the earth"; and it was in maintaining the consciousness of God's perfect kingdom, ever at hand.
