Principle's demand on us

From the November 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus was "ultra," and divine Principle demands that we be too if we would demonstrate God's law of good in our daily living. Mrs. Eddy says of Jesus, "He was ultra; he was a reformer; he laid the axe at the root of all error, amalgamation, and compounds." Message to The Mother Church for 1901, p. 23.

Jesus wasn't afraid to be radical, to go beyond the limits of traditional thinking; nor did he hesitate to demand that his followers do likewise. He was outspoken in saying that we can't have it both ways. "No man can serve two masters," Matt. 6:24. he admonished. We can't work from two standpoints; we can't trust both divine Mind and matter.

Christian Science is scientific Christianity. It is the law of God, good. It accords with the inspired teachings of the Bible. It allows for no mixing of material methods with spiritual means, no compromise with error, if we are to live in conformity with Truth. It doesn't claim to afford an easy path to perfection, but it does provide a certain one.
