I am deeply grateful for the many healings that brought me into Christian Science and made me feel so much closer to God. As a small child I briefly attended a Christian Science Sunday School. I'll always remember the love and peace I felt there and the teaching that "God is Love." However, for the most part I attended a church of another denomination.
Throughout my childhood my home was a source of turmoil, anger, and unhappiness. By the time I was eighteen, I was only too happy to leave for college. During college I occasionally attended a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. However, little did I realize then that in the future this religion would be for me the "pearl of great price."
After college I continued to feel the heavy burden imposed by the past, and I moved twelve hundred miles from my home to escape certain people, places, and bad memories. Although I was superficially happy in my career and life, that deep yawning gap still existed in my consciousness. The need for something higher, something holier, was always there. One day, when my job and a recent romance were on the rocks, I found myself sobbing in a Christian Science Reading Room. I purchased a copy of the Journal and got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner, who agreed to pray for me.
