With deep gratitude I share two outstanding healings. In each case I had feared for my life but was fully sustained by God and restored to health through the power of prayer.
One day I was almost overwhelmed by symptoms of a heart attack. Though I lost consciousness for a time, I managed to cling to parts of this passage by Mary Baker Eddy (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 127): "When a hungry heart petitions the divine Father-Mother God for bread, it is not given a stone,—but more grace, obedience, and love. If this heart, humble and trustful, faithfully asks divine Love to feed it with the bread of heaven, health, holiness, it will be conformed to a fitness to receive the answer to its desire; then will flow into it the 'river of His pleasure,' the tributary of divine Love, and great growth in Christian Science will follow,—even that joy which finds one's own in another's good."
Because I was then living alone and the condition seemed alarming, I was taken by my daughter to a nursing facility for Christian Scientists. Immediately after arriving there, I felt the presence of God's love surrounding me—like the "river of His pleasure." And step by step I gained confidence that I could be healed. The nurses gave me loving care, and someone read me the weekly Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly. I also listened to articles that were read from the Christian Science periodicals. With all this, I felt my strength returning. After a two-week stay in this haven of Love, I gained inspiration that left me feeling I could return home, which I did.
