Shortly before Christ Jesus was to depart from this earth, he said to his disciples ( John 14:27 ), "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. " The peace which the Master left does not rest upon material power or diplomatic influence, but is a spiritual fact, eternally established in the kingdom of heaven, which he came to reveal.
There is a war going on. We are in it.
Among the things for which many people are thankful is the freedom they enjoy to turn to God in grateful acknowledgment of His goodness and power. The custom of gathering in places of worship to publicly express thankfulness for the benefits and blessings God bestows upon them brings vividly to thought their dependence upon Him for their very existence.

While struggling with a physical or moral ailment, or some other inharmonious condition, we may find encouragement in the Psalmist's plea to God, "Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins" ( Ps. 25:18 ).
" Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness" ( Isa. 41:10 ).
A doctrine which evoked much argument among the theologians of the early centuries of Christianity was that of incarnation. There were various sects in those days of emerging Christianity which recognized the erroneousness of matter, its delusive nature, and its basis for sin.
