"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness" (Isa. 41:10).
Such promises—and there are many of them in the Bible—strengthen and encourage us when we are confronted with disturbing threats to our safety and security. Because Scriptural promises are impartial and timeless, they apply to us today as much as they did to others centuries ago. When we take them to ourselves and understand the nature of their divine source, we see mortal threats silenced, whether these threats are directed against our country, our church, our homes, our businesses, or our bodies.
Divine promises become real to us when our thought is controlled by enlightening faith rather than by darkening fear. Speaking of that happy day when the Science of Christ will be recognized, Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 55), "The promises will be fulfilled."
