Every Christian Scientist is eager to demonstrate, that is, to show forth in his daily life, the divine qualities which he has by reflection of God and which give him his true individuality. He has learned that as he looks within, defines the reflected qualities, and relates them to God, their eternal source, he finds that the errors of material sense are corrected and that their harmful effects in his thinking and living are gradually annulled.
He may be led to begin his prayerful work of spiritual identification with a review of the seven synonyms for God—Mind, Soul, Spirit, Principle, Life, Truth, and Love. He learns to identify with the one divine Mind the intelligence and discernment which he perceives himself to be expressing. The qualities of integrity and order express Principle and Truth. He identifies with Love itself his growing capacity to appreciate and to love objectively all that is truly good. His enthusiasm, his health, his joyousness, his conviction of immortality, bear witness to Life. He evidences the qualities of Soul in perception, spiritual intuition, beauty, and fitness.
In so identifying the qualities we see ourselves reflecting, we are able more clearly and surely to discern and appreciate the spiritual qualities being expressed by our neighbor and therefore to obey the second of Christ Jesus' great commandments (Matt. 22:39), "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
