Many Old Testament seers prophesied the coming of a Messiah, or Saviour, who would govern the nations with wisdom and understanding. This prophecy was fulfilled in the birth and life of Christ Jesus. The way he lived, the healing work he accomplished, proved conclusively that he was the Way-shower. He knew and demonstrated that the presence and power of God understood brought comfort, healing, and salvation to those who turned to him for help.
Mrs. Eddy says on page 131 of Science and Health: "The mission of Jesus confirmed prophecy, and explained the socalled miracles of olden time as natural demonstrations of the divine power, demonstrations which were not understood. Jesus' works established his claim to the Messiahship."
In the Gospel of John we read the prophecy which Jesus himself made. He said, "I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you" (14:16, 17) .
