THE EVER-PRESENCE OF GOD

From the September 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

If it were true that God could be in some particular part of the world attending to the solution of a seemingly important problem and, by so doing, leave other communities unattended (and this would be the case if He were a type of superhuman entity, both wiser and more powerful than other ethereal beings), men would have little to rely upon for spiritual guidance and consolation in the face of what appears to be evil.

Although many persons still believe in this kind of God, Christian Scientists can and should sing songs of praise and gratitude for the knowledge that God is ever present, All-in-all. Never can His children be separated from Him; never can they be enticed to leave His presence. This applies to us, for whether we acknowledge it or not, we are His spiritual images, Mind's ideas.

The Psalmist wrote: "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me" (Ps. 139:7-10). Does this not assure us that even to the extreme ends of the universe the infinite presence of God is established?
