OUR THANKFULNESS TO GOD

From the November 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Among the things for which many people are thankful is the freedom they enjoy to turn to God in grateful acknowledgment of His goodness and power. The custom of gathering in places of worship to publicly express thankfulness for the benefits and blessings God bestows upon them brings vividly to thought their dependence upon Him for their very existence.

It is, therefore, with particular joy that Christian Scientists unite with others in observing a traditional Thanksgiving Day. Throughout the ages men have paid homage to the creator and preserver of their lives, and as a result a constantly expanding society in which basic freedoms have been enjoyed and vigorously protected has evolved under God.

No clearer evidence of the character of a people, of their sincere desire to live in peaceable relations with others, can be given than is indicated in these words: "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name" (Ps. 100:4).
