Testimonies of Healing
In grateful acknowledgment of many benefits received in Christian Science, I gladly offer my testimony to the healing power of Truth. Three years ago my son, then five years of age, was afflicted with a complication of diseases.
It is with a heart full of gratitude that I give this testimony, hoping it may be of benefit to some one seeking the truth. Six years ago, while living in Memphis, Tenn.
In reading over a testimony in the Journal for October, 1912, from one of the survivors of the Titanic disaster, I was forcibly reminded of a somewhat similar experience which came to me a few years ago. I was staying with a family who were Christian Scientists, and one morning we all went down to the river to bathe.
In reading recently of a doctor of medicine who had expressed through the columns of the press his disbelief that Christian Science could cure physical exhaustion, since medicine was powerless to relieve that condition, the conviction came to me that only ingratitude had so long prevented the acknowledgment through our publications of my own healing from this distressing ailment. Though it was not through physical healing that I became interested in Christian Science, at the time this teaching was first brought to my notice I was subject to such extreme exhaustion that when I reached home from business in the afternoon I was obliged to lie down, and was unable to participate in any activity during the evening.
I feel it a duty to express my gratitude for the many blessings I have received through the study of Christian Science. I have been a practising physician for over thirty years, and feel exceedingly grateful for the overcoming through Truth of the belief that medicine has power to heal disease.
It was in August, 1908, that I first noticed my cousin was not in her usual state of health. Later in the same year, doctors were consulted and her case was pronounced to be a very serious one of exophthalmic goiter.
ABOUT a year and a half ago I became interested in Christian Science, and was healed through it of what is known as exophthalmic goiter. It was toward the end of the year 1908 that I consulted a doctor, but for months before deciding to do this I had felt ill and very weary.
I want to express a deep sense of gratitude for the understanding of Truth which has come to me through the study of Christian Science. I am deeply grateful for the physical healing, the proof of God's ever-presence, but there is always a keener sense of gratitude for the spiritual uplift which comes as a result of this understanding of God.
I am not a Christian Scientist for the reason that at present I do not understand the Science well enough to be one, but when a demonstration is made such as I have had, I feel that it would be wrong to keep silent. I have a very dear little granddaughter, and when she was thirteen months old she was suddenly stricken with paralysis from her waist down.
I never thought seriously of Christian Science until about two years ago, when I heard a sermon preached against it. I could not accept the views of the speaker, because I knew from the lives of some who were Christian Scientists that his statements were not true; so I decided to investigate the subject, as I was not satisfied with my religious beliefs and was in great need of physical help.
