Testimonies of Healing
When Christian Science first came to my notice I was an atheist in all the word implies, believing this mortal existence to be all and death the end of all things for me, but Truth came, and in its light the dark shadow of atheism in all its hideousness disappeared never again to return, for I am being led upward and onward on my journey, out of darkness into Truth's eternal dawn, from sense to Soul. Since coming into the light of Christian Science there have been many beautiful demonstrations of the power of Truth over error.
We have not the privilege of attending a Christian Science church, as we live about twenty-five miles from the nearest one, but every Sunday my husband and I go through with the service, besides reading a portion of the Lesson-Sermon every morning. I was led to investigate Christian Science, about four years ago, by being loaned some copies of the Journal and Sentinel , and so far as my limited sphere will permit, I now try to circulate my copies, hoping some one may be led by them to the truth, as I was.
I think it is three or four years since I first heard Christian Science mentioned. It was being discussed in a drawing-room, and some one turned to me and said, laughing, "Did you ever hear such nonsense in your life?" I am always glad now when I remember my reply, which was, "It may be nonsense, but think what it means to the people who believe it.
Thirteen years ago I was healed by Christian Science. I had been an invalid for three years previous to this time.
It has for some time been a growing conviction that I should add my mite to the already vast accumulation of evidence of the efficacy of Christian Science. In the autumn of 1898 it was first brought to my notice, and although I had the advantage of attending a Christian Science church and carefully noting the services, yet through prejudice and a desire to contest every proposition set forth in Mrs.
In the spring of 1898 I first heard of Christian Science, and the following August I began the study of its textbook, Science and Health. So eagerly did I imbibe its saving truths, that, without thinking of physical help for myself, I was healed of severe stomach, liver, and kidney trouble, after having read for about three months.
It is with a heart full of happiness and peace, and of love to God and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, that I gratefully add my testimony to the thousands of others which have already been given by those who have been raised up from a life of suffering and sorrow and sin into the glorious light of the understanding of the omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience of our Father-Mother God.
Were it not for the blessings that Christian Science has brought to me, I feel that I should still be the sufferer that I was for years instead of the healthy, happy man I am. For four years I doctored with the best physicians in different cities for a stomach trouble, getting no relief, only growing worse.
To me, the most beautiful words in the English language are Christian Science. Ten years ago I did not know their significance and had seldom heard them.
With a heart full of gratitude do I testify to the healing and spiritual uplifting received through Christian Science. In 1894 I was living in Houston, Texas, and conducting a dressmaking establishment.
