Testimonies of Healing
Many years ago, while visiting an old schoolmate on a sugar plantation in Louisiana, I found among the books of her library some magazines which were of much interest to me. They had come from the far North.
We were living in a small town in Ohio when I first heard something of Christian Science, and it was only a very short time afterward that I found a Scientist and asked for treatment for my many ills. I was almost immediately healed of stomach and head trouble with which I had suffered for a number of years.
When I first heard of Christian Science, I was attracted to it at once by the beauty of its thought and the logic of its reasoning. I was not suffering at that time, except with a restlessness in regard to religion, as I often wondered why our religion was not more practical, and if we were to obey the Gospel command to heal the sick.
I wish to tell through the pages which convey such sweet messages of hope to suffering humanity, what Christian Science has done for me. Until recently I had heard but little of this wonderful truth, and then it was brought to my notice in a most forcible manner.
The testimonies given through the columns of the Journal and the Sentinel contain so much that is helpful, that I hope, by giving my testimony, to return in a small measure what I have received. More than a year ago my attention was first seriously directed to Christian Science.
It is five years since I began the study of Christian Science, and in all that time the understanding of the truth has never failed to bring relief from whatever difficulty seemed to overtake me or any one of the six members of my immediate family. Our dear Journal of last February came when deep waters seemed to surround me.
From childhood I was very weak and sickly My main troubles were frequent attacks of nervous headache, increasing in severity as I grew older, and always ending with convulsions. At the age of nine I had so severe an attack that, after having fever and pain for two days, I was thrown into convulsions which lasted for two hours.
Previous to 1897 I knew nothing about Christian Science and heard little in its favor. About that time I procured the loan of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs.
IT is with gratitude that I give my testimony, hoping that it may benefit others struggling for health and happiness. Twelve years ago I became afflicted with what the doctors pronounced cancer.
It is now almost three years since I first received any correct idea of Christian Science. While engaged in a manufacturing business in Columbus, Ohio, care, work, and worry, to which was added a severe shock from the fall of an elevator, brought on a pronounced case of nervous prostration.
