It is five years since I began the study of Christian Science, and in all that time the understanding of the truth has never failed to bring relief from whatever difficulty seemed to overtake me or any one of the six members of my immediate family. Our dear Journal of last February came when deep waters seemed to surround me. Every article whispered a message of love, but one pointed the way to my help. At that time I was suffering from an attack of indigestion, and the writer referred to a similar difficulty, and stated that page 388 of Science and Health contained the prescription which brought her healing. I sought the same remedy, and after reading a few minutes the difficulty passed away. This experience inspires me to write and acknowledge my gratitude, and to give thanks to God for the many blessings received from the study and practice of Christian Science, also to express my love and gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has made it possible for all the world to partake of the blessings of truth so bountifully.
When I first took up the study of Christian Science, I had suffered very much from spinal irritation. Medical specialists failed to give me any relief. I tried allopathy, homoeopathy, electricity, massage, osteopathy, etc., but none had the desired effect. Then Christian Science was suggested by a very dear friend. I tried it and was healed, not only of the spinal difficulty but of throat trouble, dyspepsia, and all the annoyances which usually accompany such disorders. Christian Science has been as manna from heaven to me. It is that of which Jesus said, "The truth shall make you free." What it has done for me physically is but a shadow of the benefits received spiritually.
Born and reared in the Jewish faith, I had no eyes or ears for any other religion. All others seemed but a mockery when compared to my own dear faith, and so, when the Science which bore the name Christian was first offered to me, I rebelled against it. The records of persecution, bigotry, fanaticism, and all the varied expressions of human ignorance stood before me, and the question came, Could a religion which had tolerated such terrible things to my people, have in it an element of salvation from sickness and distress? Impossible! These and other adverse suggestions seemed to argue against the proposition, but I was sorely troubled and no relief was held out in any other direction, so I concluded to try it, and the result was physical and mental regeneration. I found that Christianity had been subjected to much distortion, and that we were looking at the seeming and calling it real. To my surprise I also found Judaism in an unnatural garb, made up of ritualism and ceremonialism, and fringed with the evils of the world, and now that both the Old Testament and the New are understood in the light of Christian Science, I find that all who love Truth have the same Father, the same Life, the same Mind. I see that the differences which have separated men religiously and otherwise have resulted from misunderstandings and errors. In Christian Science we have found a God who is Love, intelligence, all-power; an ever-presence, a God on whom we may call in our every-day experiences. All this has brought me unspeakable joy and peace. I have learned to be more loving, more kind and tolerant; I have learned that all mankind may express godliness, and that when the errors of sense have been overcome, the true brotherhood of man will come to view. When we are like God, when we exemplify the love that was in Christ Jesus, we will draw all men unto us, and we shall know but one shepherd and one flock.
