I wish to tell through the pages which convey such sweet messages of hope to suffering humanity, what Christian Science has done for me. Until recently I had heard but little of this wonderful truth, and then it was brought to my notice in a most forcible manner.
A friend of mine, whose malady had been pronounced fatal by a leading physician, if an operation were not performed at once (and that even then he would not promise a successful issue), had written her sister, who is a Scientist living in the East, to come to her aid, and when my friend told me she was healed, I was greatly astonished. Though I have been a doubter and prone to argue, I came to see that this was an indisputable fact. I had been subject to bronchitis for fourteen years, and each recurrence of the trouble seemed worse. The physician told me I was threatened with asthma and that only a change of climate could afford me any relief. We believed this ailment to be hereditary.
My friend asked me if I would like to meet her sister, and I said I would be glad to know one who understood the promises of Jesus well enough to make this wonderful demonstration for her. Soon after I was presented to her, a fit of coughing seized me, so that I could hardly hear or speak, and I asked her if she would help me. She said she would, and afterwards she talked to me, and told me many wonderful but reasonable truths. I then began to breathe with ease, and went home with hope and gladness in my heart. I have not had a recurrence of the cough since. I obtained a copy of the book, Science and Health, by Mrs. Eddy, and have been studying it ever since. As the truth is gradually being unfolded to me I am learning much.
