Testimonies of Healing
A year ago , my husband and I were eagerly awaiting the birth of our first child. During my pregnancy, we both prayed to understand more about our spiritual identity and that of our baby—that we were and are all children of God.
The phrase "Love is the liberator," found in Science and Health , page 225 , reminds me of a moment of spiritual understanding I had that resulted in a physical healing. When I was a teenager I had occasional internal discomfort.
Although I have had numerous healings through prayer, two experiences that occurred in the mid-'90s are very special to me. The first took place on a Saturday morning.
One day I was coming home from my friend's house, but I couldn't get into our yard because the driveway gate was closed. So I banged on the gate, hoping that someone in the house would hear me and open it.
I have had so many wonderful healings as a Christian Scientist, and am grateful for all of them. When I was in my early 20s, I applied for Primary class instruction with a Christian Science teacher.
Before I began studying Christian Science, I remember praying only twice. The first time, I prayed to love someone I was angry with.
I went to a Christian Sunday School while I was growing up, but later on I quit going to church. One day, a few years after I was out of college, I ran into a friend's father.
Not long after our younger son graduated from university in the early '90s, he cut off all contact with us. After many attempts to contact him, I humbly decided to respect his decision to be left alone.
A few weeks after my son was born, I heard that a friend's son had contracted scarlet fever. A short time later, my ten-year-old daughter developed a rash and a fever.
" Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain" ( Ps. 127:1 ), says the Bible.
