Testimonies of Healing
At a time when I had decided that if the kind of experience I was having was what life was all about, I didn't want any more of it, Christian Science came into my life. I had felt such a sense of emptiness one evening that I decided to take my life by a certain date if things didn't improve.
Jesus told us, "In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world" ( John 16:33 ). During "the flood of 1993" in the mid-western United States, I learned firsthand that the way to overcome challenges is through God and the power of His Christ.
I have always relied on Christian Science for healing, both for myself and for my children. Recently, I had the joy of watching my children, now grown, enjoying each other's company, and with a deep sense of the Father's loving care I remembered some of the precious healings we have experienced.
Hymn No. 258 in the Christian Science Hymnal expresses my gratitude for many healings that came as I chose to rely on God.
During my last term of college I suddenly lost my sight. I was aware of large objects but could only see in focus for very brief intervals and under significant strain.
Although I was raised in a Christian Scientist family, I don't think I really understood the true significance of this Science until I began to understand God as Love. When I first married I felt my mother-in-law was quite pushy.
The first Christian Science healing our family experienced was my healing of fever when I was a little girl. I attended Christian Science Sunday School right through high school and into college.
A few years ago, my husband and I were sitting on our patio eating dinner, when I felt a sharp pain in my foot. I had apparently been stung by a yellow jacket (a variety of wasp).
There have been more healings in my life than I can remember—most of them were not particularly dramatic, although each one was very important to me at the time it occurred. Nothing is more welcome than a need being met.
As a child, I attended a Christian Science Sunday School, feeling that there was something very important being taught there. A neighborhood friend was invited to go with me.
