Testimonies of Healing
Many years ago when we moved house into the countryside, our new property included several acres of woodland. My primary employment at that time was as a partner in a firm of chartered accountants, so involvement in woodland management was to be very much a part-time activity, but I was keen to learn best practices, and part of this expectation was to learn how to use a chain saw correctly.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” ( Proverbs 3:5, 6 ).
A few months ago I felt nauseous and became ill. My fear was that I would faint, and although I was at home, there would be no one around to help me.
When our first baby was born, the doctor said something was wrong with her, and he would have to operate the next morning. I asked my husband to phone the Christian Science practitioner who had been supporting me through the pregnancy and the birth, and let her know something wasn’t right with our baby.
“I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints” ( Psalms 85:8 ). The words of the Psalmist have been a constant guide to me in my growth as a student of Christian Science, and have often been a helpful impetus in being more effective in my healing practice.
When this author fell in their home and couldn’t get up, they acknowledged—and stuck to knowing—that God’s help is always present.
Over the course of several years a small lump under my arm developed and then grew to a noticeable size. I wore tops with sleeves to avoid people making comments, but since there were no other inconveniences caused, I basically ignored it.
When I was about to start graduate school many years ago, I got a notice from the school informing me that I needed to take a physical examination as part of the admission requirements. When I explained to the admission office that I was a Christian Scientist and therefore would like to be given an exemption, they told me that I still needed to take a tuberculosis test.
I owe my life to Christian Science. A bit over a year ago I was forced to take time off from work, as a growth that had been on my abdomen for years had grown to the point where I could not comfortably walk, and walking was a large part of my job.
I was raised in Christian Science in a loving home with my dad, mom, and older sister. The expectation of good health was normal, and I remember having an amazing healing in high school of severe burns to my face from the effects of falling asleep under a sunlamp.
