Healing of pain

From the May 2017 issue of The Christian Science Journal

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands” (Psalms 100:1). After reading this in Sunday School, I asked my student, who was about eight years old, how she would make a joyful noise to the Lord. She was quiet for a few moments, then she jumped up and said in a loud voice, “I am healed! I am healed!”

Years later, I still think of the delight this little one took in her response whenever I read, “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.” One morning, I was able to make that kind of joyful noise to the Lord. I realized I was completely free from pain in my knee.

For several days I had prayed persistently, inspired by reading recent articles in The Christian Science Journal and Sentinel. Although there seemed to be no physical improvement, just pain and restriction, I pressed on, prayerfully affirming the truth that I could only really feel the presence and power of God. I knew from my study of Christian Science that the only real cause is God. God is Love, the Bible says, and divine Love can cause only what is loving and good—never pain. To practice Christian Science is to take a firm stand for this truth, despite the opposite testimony of material sense.
