Expressing gratitude is a daily occurrence for me. In fact, many people have received a unique response from me to the standard greeting, “How are you?” “I am grateful!” I reply, before asking how they are. Cherished statements on page 3 of Mary Baker Eddy’s Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures show me the spiritual basis for this gratitude. You’ll enjoy discovering these for yourself!
When I was a parolee counselor, I gave a gratitude seminar with over one hundred parolees in attendance. It was an interactive seminar, which I was inspired to develop after I read a beautiful article about gratitude in The Christian Science Monitor. The participants wrote down their blessings and shared what they were grateful for in their lives. It was moving to hear these men finding something to be grateful for, even though they’d just come out of prison.
Gratitude resonated with me from a very early age. There is nothing better than giving thanks to God, divine Love, for all the good in our lives, such as protection, friendship, nourishment—evidence of divine Love meeting our needs. I feel I am at my best when I am sharing and giving. Expressing any amount of gratitude, big or small, even when we go through tough times, can have a ripple effect and impact our surroundings, leaving no room for error (evil) to take root in our lives.
