ALLEGORY

From the April 1884 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This article was later republished in Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896: Mis. 323:1-328:32

Learn a parable of this period, how it receives Truth as presented to mortals by Christ Jesus.

Behold a gigantic mountain, an Acropolis, whose top rests above the clouds in the serene azure of unfathomable blue. Upon this mount is "the house not made with hands," the gates of pearl and streets of gold.

Descending from the summit, a heavenly Pilgrim is threading his way to the valley beneath, where a few watchers wait to behold him. The descent is beset with ravenous beasts, lurking serpents, and wolves in sheep's clothing; until he stands in their midst, glorified, and they can look upon his wounds healed.
