Letters

From the February 1886 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We hear its utterance, as nowhere else, in the new language of the Bible, revealed in Christian Science, and made manifest to us through right instruction, which places us within reach of the highest demands of Christianity—a religion that calls to-day for its proof in demonstration, rather than profession. By understanding this spiritual teaching, both in Spirit and letter, we become acquainted with the scientific facts of creation, which gives us identity in the Divine, Eternal Principle of Being, the Spirit also bearing witness to our conscious sense, that we are the children of God, the offspring of Spirit.

This blessed fact gives proof of Life as Immortality, with claims to be acknowledged here and now. Its acceptance and unfolding are to be reached through understanding, and made possible of attainment while in this border-land.

From the old standpoint of thought, we were educated to consider death the gate which opened into glory; and many to-day are longing for its coming, as they would for that of a friend. But what was Paul's teaching in this particular, when he declared death "the last enemy" to be overcome.
