During the late summer and early autumn days of the year just past we had in our family a case of typhoid fever, which brought out a most beautiful demonstration of the power of Love and Truth over error. The patient was my son, a lad of eighteen, who wanted no treatment but Christian Science, and had no other.
It was some three weeks from the time the patient came down until he was out. There were a few long days and nights of delirium, when the error talked very loud and aroused some feeling of unrest and criticism among the neighbors, that this boy was lying in such a condition without medical attention. Both these phases of error, delirium and criticism, were soon met with the truth, and silenced.
The family with whom we were staying, when the disease was first manifested, were not favorable to Christian Science, and as soon as they decided that the boy was seriously ill, they commissioned the father to instruct me either to get a physician or remove the patient from the house; we decided it was best, considering everything, to remove him,; so he was taken from his bed at what seemed to be the most critical time, dressed, put into a carriage, and driven a distance of two miles. This was done, however, with no bad results, and with no feeling of injury toward the family who made the request.
