I feel impelled to give to the Field some of the good that false pride has many times persuaded me to withhold. I came into this beautiful truth over five years ago, and never once have I been sorry for the step taken. I cannot mention anything in the material living in which Christian Science has not been a help to me. I had an intemperate husband, who seldom spent an evening at home; if he did happen to be home one evening I would always think, Well, to-morrow night he will not come home at all, and it was always as I had expected. He was always under the influence of liquor. I do not believe he drew one sober breath for over five years. When I needed his kindness and love most, he was most unjust to me. From a happy, cheerful, loving disposition I grew most hateful. There were times I was tempted to leave him, but the vow I had taken meant much to me, so I would bear up, and, as it were, start over again. Separation seemed disgraceful to me and I suffered on until the light came.
Through reading Science and Health I was healed of an illness which I had suffered from for months. After my healing I began to study, and have worked steadily on, although encountering many hard battles, and have never doubted that in the end, if I were faithful, the victory would be mine.
I have suffered poverty in its worst form, have known the time when dry bread would have been thankfully received. I declared all the time, God will help me. There were times though, that I might have thought, there surely is no God. I seemed to need all this, for I had been very proud, and had to be brought very low.
